Division 6 League Result:
Westerns 0-7 Rovers 0-9
We travelled to a wind swept Reaghstown yesterday fully expecting a wash out but the rain held off and the game proceeded. Credit to the Westerns their field was immaculate and held up very well after the heavy rainfall.
Rovers started well against the wind and found themselves with a 0-1 to 0-4 point lead with scores coming from Stephen Finnegan, Ronan Byrne, David Marron and Olly Carroll all from play. From here on in the Westerns took over and hit 6 unanswered scores to lead 0-7 to 0-4 at half time. With the aid of the wind Rovers slowly starting getting on top in the second half and two points from Aidan Kerr narrowed the gap. Credit to our backs who snuffed out attacks form a determined opposition, these turn overs led to a lot of our attacks. Ronan Byrne hit the levelling score when he won a kick out of his own. Both teams were level for a while and exchanged a number of wides. Stephen Finnegan kicked the lead score after a great assist from the impressive Paul Noone who led the half back line with distinction. Quick thinking from David Marron from a side line ball set up Stephen Finnegan for the final score. A frantic last five minutes ensued but Rovers held out to secure a semi final promotion play off for the 2nd year running. We are still in the hunt for the league title and now face O’Raghaillaghs next tuesday at home with whom we are level on points with.

Best of luck to the Westerns with their new club rooms, it was our first time using them and they were top class. Always good to see the smaller country clubs making progress like this.
