Naomh Fionnbarra 7-15(36) Roche Emmets 1-18(21)
The Naomh Fionnbarra Intermediate team recorded a good win over Roche Emmets in the 9th Round of the Division 2 League at John Markey Park, Ballygassan on Friday 25th May. Played in bright, sunny conditions, excellent for football the Barrs made the brighter start with a William Woods point from paly after 2 minutes. Roche equalised shortly afterwards with a point by Barry O’Hare. Another Woods point was followed up with a Mairtin Murphy goal after 4 minutes. Roche responded with 2 points in a row before Darren McConnon scored a major of his own against his former club. Again Roche came back with 2 points in a row which was partially cancelled out by a Jack Butterly point. 4 Roche points without reply made the game all square. A William Woods goal after 22 minutes gave the Barrs the lead again. Another 2 Roche points were again cancelled out straight away with a fine Jack Butterly score. Woods followed this up with another point from play. At the other end a fine save by experienced goalkeeper Allan Matthews kept a Dan O’Connell effort out.
Conor Osborne then scored a goal for the Finbarrs with a calm finish after a good move. A point for the Faughart men was then sandwiched by another Darren McConnon major. Roche finished the scoring of the half with a point by Barry O’Hare. Paddy Whites troops headed in a the short whistle 7 ahead. Significantly, whilst socring freely at one end, the Togher rear guard had started to come to terms with Barry O’Hare with a few effective switches in defence. Half time score: Naomh Fionnbarra 5-5(20) Roche Emmets 0-13(13).
