On Thursday night in Clogherhead the Sean O'Mahony's Junior Team got through to the Junior 2B Championship final,in the end by the skin of their teeth in a game which they had dominated throughout but only led by a single point at the final whistle. The lads from the quay got of to a dream start when Eoin Hanratty's high ball into the square was flicked to the net by the onrushing Liam Byrne for the opening score, followed by 3 points from Brendan Traynor and Gary Mulligan to open up a 6 point lead. Dreadnots did get into the game and kicked 3 first half points but O'Mahony's kicked 5 more of their own before the break to leave 8 between the sides, 0-3 to 1-8 on the changover.
In a low scoring second half both teams exchanged 3 points each in the first 25 minutes to leave the margin still 8 points with time running out for the home team, before the game exploded into life when Dreadnots scored a penalty. Three minutes later the Clogherhead men fired a quick free into the net and following shortly with a point from a free to leave 1 between the sides, and the hour nearly up. It was during injury time that the Dundalk lads showed their experience to hold possession and see out the clock to qualify for the County final despite having been forced to replace 4 of their starting 15 due to injury. Well done to all involved and the club can look forward to Junior final for the first time in over a decade and a half.
