Well done to the U14 Boys that travelled to Naomh Malachi to take on Kilkerley/N.Malachi. Unlike last week the boys started strong and set the tone for the match which left the opposition chasing the game. There was great defending and link play from the blues boys making it a very enjoyable game to watch. At the final whistle the Blues boys finished on top by a goal.
Newtown Blues 4-08
Back at home the U16 Girls took on Naomh Mairtin’s and this week our girls were unlucky suffering a defeat as the Mairtins kept the scoreboard ticking over with some well worked points but for a neutral there was plenty of great scores to keep you entertained. HEALTH AND WELL BEING:
We are presently co-ordinating the Irish Heart Foundation to attend Club at a date to be confirmed, to provide their “Hands for Life” CPR Programme kindly sponsored by ESB Networks and Abbott.
To give you some background, the course takes one hour to complete. This community based CPR training is free and it concentrates on recognising cardiac arrest, making the 112 call, listening to the call taker and knowing your Eircode. Candidates then get to practice hands only compressions on a manikin and there is also a section on AED awareness, choking, child CPR, recognising stroke and the difference between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack. Please note that those who attend the training must be over 18 years.
When providing the free courses the IHF aim is to have 3 sessions per day in one location, with 30 attendees in each therefore at least 90 individuals can be trained.
Naomh Mairtin Plan to have a group of 30 interested (Coaches & Club volunteers) in the programme & then we want to extend this training to other community members & groups in the Parish to fill the next two sessions.
Huge thank you to Derek and Orlagh Devine for sponsoring our u11s with a new set of jerseys.
Hard luck to local National School, St. Patrick’s N.S. who unfortunately did not win their Cumann na mBunscoil boys final last week. Great achievement getting there.
Thank you to Mark Kirwan of Clear Cut Marketing for sponsoring a set of jerseys for Scoil Naomh Buithe. This gesture has been greatly appreciated by all.

SEAN O MAHONYS
The Sean O’Mahony’s senior team got back to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Clan na nGael on the Point Road on Good Friday. After the disappointment of losing out by a single, injury time point in Lordship last week, our lads were much less wasteful in front of the posts this week, kicking 12 point in total. In a low scoring first half, both defense’s were on top throughout, leaving scoring opportunities thin on the ground, but still the home side were 4 points to 2 ahead at the break. The lads from the Quay slowly pulled away in the second period with the majority of the scores coming from the usual suspects, as in Conor Finnegan and Stephen Kilcoyne, with Sean Mathews and substitute Danny O’Brien chipping in with one from play apiece, leaving a full time score of SOM 0-12 to Clan 0-5. Next up is another home fixture, this time against the Dreadnots next Friday the 26th at 8pm.
