The week started with our U9’s hosting the Dreadnots & St. Mary’s on Monday night while our Minor Boys headed to Clogherhead and U14 girls travelled to Lordship for their league games.
The minor boys had a great result against the Dreadnots in a well contested game coming back with a win.
Newtown Blues 2-17
Next up in Lordship was the U14 game and this didn’t end in our favour despite the valiant efforts by the Blues girls but on this occasion the Pats proved to have the edge.
Final Score U14 Girls
Newtown Blues 1-08
St. Patrick’s 8-07
On Tuesday the Junior men took to the field with a couple of boots getting a dusting the lads were unlucky not to come away with the win as the final whistle came there was a goal separating the teams in favour of Hunterstown.
Final Score Div 4 Men
Newtown Blues 2-12
Wednesday was even busier with our U10s out in Darver at their all county blitz and meeting the Louth Senior men’s team while back at home the U14 hosted the Fechins followed but the U16 Girls hosting the Dreadnots.
The U14 boys started well dictating the pace of the game for the first half never letting the Fechins take the lead but with the restart the Fechins took advantage of a few Blues mistakes and found themselves back in the game. The last 10 minutes saw the lead change hands and on the final whistle both sides were left level on a very exciting contest.
Final Score U14 Boys
Newtown Blues 1-12
St. Fechins 3-06
Last up was the U16 girls who dug deep to finish with a win despite the fact that a number of the girls were just off the bus from their Hell & Back event. From the sideline it was difficult to see the impact of the event as every girl worked hard, supporting when attacking and ensuring we had numbers back to stop the Dreadnots. This determination allowed the girls to maintain the lead and finish on the final whistle ahead. It was a well deserved win for this group.
Final Score U16 Girls
Newtown Blues 4-14

Friday night saw the opening of our new Pitch. We would like to thank all those volunteers who worked hard over the past few months on this project; your input was invaluable. We would also like to thank Fr. Padraig Keenan for his blessing before our senior’s first outing on the new pitch.
Eamonns men gave a great performance Friday evening winning 1.10 – 0.12 against a determined Cooley Kickhams. For the second week in a row the Gers would score an all important goal right at the death and now sit at the top of the Division 1 table. We would like to thank all the supporters for their attendance Friday night and our Gers Bring a Ball initiative was a great success with many future players displaying their skills on the pitch during half time. Our Ladies B continued the winning streak winning against Glyde on Friday night and Sunday our Ladies A came out on top over St Brides.
Our Juvenile section has seen great activity with all age groups having high numbers for training sessions and matches, with many age groups securing wins in their games. Please check our social media pages for reports and pictures, and this week’s fixtures.
Sunday saw our u14 girls battle for a place in Feile Peile na nÓg 2019 with a Louth tournament held in Cooley. They worked hard to secure a semi-final berth – wishing them the best of luck for Bank Holiday Monday’s semi and final.
Gers Bears Nursery started Friday evening with a record attendance of 82 children. This age group is aimed at 4, 5 & 6 year olds and will run every Friday evening 6-645pm until Friday 27th September.

SEAN O MAHONYS
The Sean O’Mahony’s senior team earned their third win of the 2019 season with workman like performance in Collon on Friday night and came away with 2 important league points after a 5 point victory. In a low scoring first half, the home side made better use of their opportunities to take a 3 point lead into the break with a scoreline of 5 points to 2. The game swung dramatically early in the second half when concerted O’Mahony’s pressure on the Mattock Rangers kick-outs, forced a bizarre own-goal, which was closely followed by a Stephen Kilcoyne 3 pointer of his own. These 2 quickfire green flags left the Dundalk side in the driving seat and they duly ran out 5 point winners on a final score of 0-9 to 2-8.
Team & Scores: Kevin Brennan, Kian McEvoy, Chris O’Neill, Robert Galligan, Liam Dullaghan, Colin Finan 0-1, Danny O’Brien, Keith McLoughlin, Conor Martin, Kyle Carroll, Ben McLaughlin 0-1, Conor Finnegan 0-2, Stephen Kilcoyne 1-3(1 Free), Jonathon Connolly, Terence Kelly 0-1.
Subs used: Stephen Fisher, Conor McGailey, Pauric McConville
A much depleted Sean O’Mahony’s second team traveled to Termonfeckin on Tuesday evening and were no match for a very strong Fechins side who seemed to have plenty of replacements on the bench while the lads from the quay had just the 15 plus 2 over 40’s on the bench. The home side put together some fine moves and took some well taken scores in the first half to lead by 1-7 to 0-3. As the lads from the Quay tired in the second half, the Fechins ran out easy winners by 2-14 to 0-5.
Pauric McConville, Lee Byrne, Chris O’Neill, Dean Carroll, Conor McGailey, Sean McGuinness, Robbie Clarke, Eoin Farrell, Arnas Jurcikonis, Ciaran Jamison, Eoin Hanratty 0-1 (1 Free), Benny Traynor 0-3(1 Free) Conor Mackin, Kyle Carroll, Liam McKenny,
Subs used: David Dowling 0-1, Paul Murray

O’Raghallaighs 1-08, Wolfe Tones 1-08
O’Raghallaighs made it two wins out of two in Division 6 on Tuesday night with a hard fought win at home over local rivals the Wolfe Tones. The game, which saw Raghs stalwart Damhan Finnegan make his welcome return to the green & white hoops, was a game of two half’s.
The first half, played in terrible weather conditions, saw the home team make most of the running and they took a deserved lead into half time. Highlight of the first half was a flowing team move by the Raghs, capped off by a fine finish to the back of the net by Matthew Moore.
A change in weather conditions at half time heralded a change in the fortunes for the away side. The Tones, roared on by a vocal away support, pegged back the home side, putting together a number of fine moves resulting in scores. This was the catalyst for the Raghs, driven on by half time substitutes Jack Carr & Cillian Curran, to finally play some football in the second half, resulting in the home side eventually prevailing by Jack Carr’s second half goal.
Team: Robert Smith, Cian Haughey, Kevin Magee, Conor Higgins, Liam Hanna, Emmet King, Paul Moore, Sean Gibbons, Sean Barrett, Pearse Rice, Ciaran Reilly (0-4), Matthew Moore (1-0), Stewart Cunnningham(0-1), Damhan Finnegan(0-1), Tom Mullen (0-1)
