Senior Team Match Result:
O’Raghallaighs 1-11, Sean O’Mahonys 0-15
Junior 2 Match Result:
O;Raghallaighs 2-15, Na Piarsaigh 0-13
O’Raghallaighs emerged from Tuesday night’s game in Dundalk against Na Piarsaigh, with both points, to make it a third win in a row in Division 6. The game, played on an excellent surface, was won with a late scoring burst from the Hoops.
The first half saw both sides mix the good with the bad, with Na Piarsaigh just shading the exchanges to go into half time with a 2 point lead, 9 points to 7. The Raghs were left pondering at the break whether not capitalizing on a number of goal chances, as well as a penalty put over the bar by Damien Boyle, would come back to haunt them at full time.
A good start to the 2nd half by Na Piarsaigh piled the pressure on the Hoops as they went 4 points down, 11 points to 7. But the Raghs, with 2nd half substitutes Jack Carr and veterans Seán Barrett & Cathal McGinty providing a steadying influence, outscored their hosts by 2-8 to 2 points over the closing stages. Goals from Barrett & captain Ciaran Reilly sealed the win, and as Na Piarsaigh strived to get back in the game, Kevin Magee & Matthew Moore were impenetrable in the full back line.
Team: Robert Smith, Matthew Moore, Kevin Magee, Conor Higgins, Liam Hanna, Emmet King (0-1), Tomas Callan, Keith Smith (0-1), Cameron Griffin, Pearse Rice, Eoin Morrison (0-3), Ciaran Reilly (1-1), Stewart Cunningham, John Horan (0-3), Damien Boyle (0-6)
Subs: Jack Carr for Callan, Sean Barrett (1-0) for Cunningham, Cathal McGinty for Rice
U16 Match Result:
O’Raghallaighs 4-14, St Kevins / Dreadnots 1-05

Since our action on Wednesday we’ve had more teams take to the field.
Our U12 Girls had their 2nd game of the week on Thursday as they travelled to Togher to play Naomh Fionnbarra. The Blues ladies did a great job keeping the Fionnbars at bay in the first 2 quarters and worked some great scores. However a late scoring flurry for the Fionnbarrs left the Blues girls behind by 4 at the final whistle.
Newtown Blues 2-03
Next up on Friday night was the U11 Boys & Girls that hosted the Dreadnots. The team showed great determination and worked some lovely scores. Thanks to Emmet Murray who was our young whistler for this match.
Friday night also saw our U14 Boys in action away in Stabannon against the combination O’Connells/Stabannon. On this occasion our lads finished behind by a point as they failed to capitalise on late scoring opportunities to close out the game. The hard work and effort of the lads made it a tough loss.
Newtown Blues 1-07
Saturday saw our U8 GIrls host the GLen Emmetts & St. Fechins in the first of the U8 Girls blitz competitions for 2019. Our girls were out in numbers despite some of them having completed the Darkness Into Light earlier that morning ! We had 2 teams and plenty of great football from a bunch of girls that love the game and their team mates inspired by our young whistler Louise Mc Donnell.
Saturday evening had the U13 Girls heading out to St. FEchins in their Spring League Competition. The weather brought out the best in this group as they maintained their clean sheet in this competition.
On a county level we had the Louth Ladies Minor team in action in the Leinster Final and sadly the Wee County didn’t come home with the silverware today as they finished behind by a goal at the final whistle. Hard luck to the team and mgmt and BLues ladies Roisin, Emma & Jade.
The Louth U14 Girls were also busy at their LEinster blitz todfay which had representation from the Blues with Sadhbh Clinton, Lily Mae Harmon, Emma McConnon & Hannah Leech.
AND finally our Senior Men travelled to Lordship and finished with a great win over the Pats in their Div. 1 encounter.
Newtown Blues 2-15

Our U.13 hurlers had mixed fortunes last week. Monday saw us playing Camlough in the tain league and after a good battle Knockbridge won out on a 3-10 to 3-01 scoreline. However o Thursday we lost to a physically stronger Mattock/St.Kevins side in the Louth league on a final score of 7-12 to 2-7.
On Tuesday our U.10’s took part in a hurling Blitz hosted by Pearse og and played some good hurling on the night.
Well done to our U.17 hurlers who played their part in helping Louth defeat Cavan by one point in the Celtic cup. We had eleven senior players involved in the Rachard cup squad but a strong finish by Sligo ended up in defeat for our county team.
This Monday we host St.Fechins in the Maurice Murphy cup semi final. After losing narrowly to them in the junior league we are hopeful of coming out on top on this occasion.
Finally thanks to all who contributed and helped out at our most recent bag pack in Dunnes Stores.
Last weekend the club had an incredible flag day. Well over 50 volunteers enjoyed the sunshine and raised €3,434. Congratulations to our 4 players on the U16 Louth panel who had a win over Wexford. Our Adult Team drew with St Nicholas last Saturday in a well contested league game. We are appealing to all club members to take part in a massive Club Cleanup from 10am on Saturday 25th May. Everything from painting to sweeping to cutting back hedges will be carried out on the day.
