Both these young teams are really flying this year and are putting together some great passages of football which are leading to plenty of well taken scores. Well done to all involved.
Our U14’s put up a brave display in Lordship on Wednesday, kicking a credible 3-9 in total but went down to a Pats team who took more of the goal chances that came their way.

A huge thanks to club member Patrick Fanning Jr for coordinating the day and for all our members who helped make it a success. Our Junior team drew with second placed league team, John Mitchell’s, last Friday. This game shows the potential of the young team who it is hoped will one day show their potential.

No senior action this week due to Louth’s Senior Championship campaign. Well done to Gers Trio James, Jim and Dan for their contribution to Louth v Dublin on Saturday in Portlaoise; unfortunately Dublin were worthy winners on the day. The Gers were well represented in the crowd as well as our u10 boys continuing their ‘Gers on Tour’ supporting the Red and White.

The u16 boys had a busy week with a game V O’Raghillilys on Monday evening where they would register a great victory on a score line of 5-11 to 2-9. Friday saw Cooley come to Haggardstown with the boys losing by a point in a great battle, final score 3-15 to 4-11.
Our u14 boys top Division 2 with a win against St. Kevins/Lannleire by 6-9 to 1-7 on Wednesday night. They play the Joes this coming week in the final round of matches.

Seniors Match Report
Division 3B – Round 11
Cuchulainn Gaels V Annaghminnon Rovers
The third home game in less than a fortnight culminated in a finale which never looked likely with 10 minutes left!! Annaghminnion started the game stronger and dominated much of the first half. After just 2 minutes a free near the sideline ended up in the back of the Gaels net after a scramble in the box. Jody Keenan scored a free on 4 minutes. The visitors then added 2 more points through their centre half forward who had a fine first half. Then came an incredible individual point from player of the match Cian McDonald on 7 minutes Winning the ball on the half way line, he evaded several tackles before kicking a fine point from 30m off his left foot. The visitors added another point to leave them 1 03 to 0 02 ahead after 10 minutes. A minute later Jody Keenan kicked a long range point from the right wing. A point from a free increased the Annaghminnon lead again but was cancelled out by another point from the tireless Cian McDonald on 22 minutes.
2 frees took the visitors tally to 1 06 after 27 minutes. On 29 minutes Ray Phillips hit a point to leave the home side flattered to be just 3 points behind after a poor first half display.
Gaeil Chúchulainn 0 06
Annaghminnion 1 06
An Dara Leath:
Cú Gaels started the second half strongly but could not convert possession to scores. 5 minutes into the half Annaghminnion hit a point and added another 4 minutes later which turned out to be their last score of the game. The Gaels defence played well throughout. Full back Martin Hynes was playing in his last game as a teenager!!
However a home win never looked likely in spite of the Gaels controlling possession in the second half thanks to an inspirational performance from club captain Frankie O’Hagan.
Michéal McCabe was unfortunate to pick up a second yellow card just after he was on the receiving end of a very high dangerous challenge that went unpunished.
25 minutes had elapsed when Cian McDonald struck the Gaels 7th point from a free, their first score of the second half. The move of the match followed. John Morgan, who had attacked all night from his half back position, fed the ball to Brian Elmore who had just come on as full forward. Brian found Cian McDonald who made no mistake, placing his shot low to the back of the net. Still a point behind, Gaels were reduced to 13 players as Ray Phillips was carded.
On 30 minutes Calum Fearon replaced Jody Keenan. 2 minutes later he won a high ball in the opposition box after a great run by Jordan Loye. Despite being dragged to the ground, he managed to get his shot away and the ball went across the goal into the left corner of the net. Gaels amazingly led by 2 points. Eoin McDonald added a late free. Annaghminnon Rovers could feel very disappointed to lose a 5 point lead so late in the game. The Gaeil Chúchulainn players knew how that felt having lost to a late goal just 5 days before.

Final Score U16 Boys
Newtown Blues 4-12
St. Mary’s 8-05
To finish off the week we had our senior ladies traveling to Cooley in their league clash on Tuesday and the close schedule of games has left a number of players struggling with injuries which resulted in a defeat for the Blues ladies on this occasion.
Wednesday night our U8 boys and girls attended the all county blitz in Darver.
Well done to all players with such an outstanding performance.
While at home on Wednesday our U16 girls played local combo O’Raghallaighs/Plunketts. Our girls played great football and had the lead up until the last few minutes where a late penalty left a few scratching their heads and this ended up being the luck that the opposition needed to turn the game around just before the final whistle. Hard luck to the Blues ladies that lost out in the end by 5points.
Our U11 boys and girls were up in Haggardstown for their league game against the Geraldines and played some fantastic team football with some great scores.
Hard luck to the county team in their encounter with Dublin. Also in action on Saturday in Darver was our U15 Boys County team who played Longford with Blues players Conor McGuirk & Coinneach Farrell.
