You may have heard that the GAA will participate in this year’s Pride Parade.
Pride Parade coordinators have provided the GAA with 100 spaces for participants so we are reaching out through our networks to identify those who would like to participate in this historic first.
Non LGBT+ members are of course welcome to participate and show their solidarity for the GAA’s LGBT+ community.
If any of our members wish to participate in the GAA section of the parade they are requested to write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will subsequently contact them with the various arrangements.
Well done to Scoil Naomh Buithe who are one 4 Louth National Schools who have been awarded the status of being a ‘GAA 5 Star Centre’ in the programmes introductory year. The GAA 5 Star initiative aims to support and recognise Primary Schools that provide pupils with 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous Gaelic Games activity per week in a manner that ensures the children will experience fun, friendship, fairness and ultimately improve their fitness. Recognition as a “GAA 5 Star Centre” is awarded to Primary Schools that undertake to deliver a programme of Gaelic Games activity that is age-appropriate and meets the developmental needs of children within the school.
Scoil Naomh Padraig Harestown enjoyed their @gaa Club Together Day. Thank you to all the coaches and teachers who helped organise this and who continue to promote the GAA within our schools. Seniors Match Report
Division 3B – Round 12
Cuchulainn Gaels V Westerners
Westerns travelled to Omeath on Saturday night as clear leaders of the division and carried that form into the game. They were ably led by star Louth midfielder Tommy Durnin, who ended up with a total of 11 points, albeit with 8 of those from placed balls.
An Chéad Leath:
Westerns, playing towards the hills, started the game brightly and hit the first score with a 35m free after 4 minutes. A fisted point followed a minute later. Gaels settled quickly and Jody Keenan answered with a fine point from the right wing. On 8 minutes Ray Phillips won the ball in midfield and burst forward, finishing with a point from 35m. Westerns moved ahead again with 2 points in 2 minutes. Ray Phillips pulled one back on 13 minutes. A Durnin point from a 45 left the Westerns 5 points to 3 in front. Great interplay followed between Micheál McCabe and Cian McDonald and led to a free that Jody Keenan converted. Westerns followed with 2 frees before they added an 8th point from play on 22 minutes.
Trailing by 4, Gaeil Chúchulainn put in a scintillating last 10 minutes of football to end the half. Excellent build up play involving the McCabe twins,Cian McDonald and John Morgan resulted in a free, duly converted by Jody Keenan. On 26 minutes Frankie O’Hagan contested and won a throw-up, knocking the ball to Séamus McCabe who evaded several challenges before curling the ball between the posts from 30m. Another Keenan free finished the first half scoring.
Leath-am (HT) :
Gaeil Chúchulainn 0 07
Westerns 0 08.
An Dara Leath :
The first half started with a Westerns onslaught as they threw everything at the Gaeil Chúchulainn defence. Goals were on their minds but the Omeath back lines, that have performed admirably over the last few weeks, held strong. However the visitors still managed to score 4 fine points in the first 7 minutes of the half. A 3rd Phillips point reduced the deficit to 4. Westerns added another free on 12 minutes. Jody Keenan replied a minute later with a fine point from the right wing. Westerns were controlling the game now and 4 points followed by the 24 minute mark, 3 of those from frees. A Jordan Loye point on 27 minutes was the last Gaels score. Another Westerns free on 29 minutes was followed by an excellent point from play in added time.
