SEAN O MAHONYS
The Sean O’Mahony’s Senior team overcame Kilkerley Emmets in Darver on Saturday evening to register their first win of the 2019 season in the Paddy Sheelan Cup, by snatching a 1 point victory from the jaws of defeat, thanks to Terence Kelly’s injury time goal. With what was an inexperienced lineup from the start, and with all 5 replacements getting at least 20 minutes on the field each. the team management should be happy with this early season run-out, on what was a greasy surface. Kilkerley got off to the better start and led by 5 points to 2 midway through the first half, Stephen Kilcoyne and Benny Traynor having kicked 2 good points from play. A fine Conor Martin point got the boys from the Quay motoring, before Stephen Kilcoyne kicked 1-3 prior being replaced at the interval, by which time the Green & Gold led by a single goal, 1-6 to 0-6. For the goal Benny Traynor cleverly found Kilcoyne free in front of goal and he calming lashed the ball past the advancing keeper. The Emmets controlled much of the second half, kicking 7 points to 2, Conor Martin’s second of the day and Terence Kelly’s first ever senior score, combined with an unbelievable double save from Kevin Brennan between the sticks, left 2 point between the side with time up. However when the Dundalk side broke up the right wing at pace, the floated cross from the right hand corner was met by the on the onrushing Terence Kelly who smashed the ball into the bottom corner of the net with his fist to stun all players and supporters of the yellow and blue.
