Kevin Mullen Sheild
Cuchulainn Gaels got their 2018 games off to a flying start under new manger Cormac Malone this morning in Drogheda against St. Nicks in the Kevin Mullen Sheild. The guys played in freezing and blustery conditions, they were well set out and up against a physically bigger team but in no way stronger. Pre season with Ruairi McCann stood the lads well and were well up for the match being the equal in skill and strength.
Gaels started well but a Wiley and more experienced St. Nicks team played to the wire in a physical battle and were one point to the good at half time. The Cu’s gathered them selves at half time and came out a more clam and sharper team in the second half, holding the Nicks scoreless in the second half until the final 10 minutes.
Cuchulainn Gaels came away with a well deserved one point win in their first competitive match of the year. Only down side was Brendan McKeown coming off after going over on his ankle but with a strong bench subs were made at the right times and every player slotted into Cormac’s system.
Well done lads, especially with composure held where at other times it may have boiled over and red cards may have been shown.
Congrats on a hard fought victory.
The Club had a fantastic turnout last night for registration, well done Mattie and Co.
All Cuchulainn Gaels players, inc our amalgamation teams with Cooley, must be members of the club and hopefully do so within the next week. The link to register on line is below . Any players that are not members of our club will not be eligible to train/play with their respective team.
We have and amalgamation with the teams of – U18’s, U15’s&16’s, U14’s and maybe U12’s – TBC. We feel this is the best for our kids to give them good constant football. Unfortunately through no fault of our own we are low on numbers at these levels and so this is our best option to fulfill the potential of our future stars.
