Anglo Printers Junior Football Championship
Glen Emmets 1-17 Stabannon Parnells 2-10
Last seasons beaten finalists got off to a winning start in the opening game of the 2017 Anglo Printers JFC in the Gaelic Grounds Drogheda. The Tullyallen boys started the game well and after 11 mins were ahead 0-6 to 0-0 with points from Damien Grimes, James Butler (2), Mark Garvey and three from the boot of Ronan Grufferty. David Cluskey pulled one back for Parnells but six more from Glen Emmets gave them a commanding lead, four of them points coming from Butler who finished the half with six points to his name. Two late first half pointed two frees from Daniel Bannon and Aonghus Giggins left none in it at the break. Glen Emmets 0-12 Stabannon Parnells 0-3.
Glen Emmets started the second half with a goal and a point inside two minutes with the goal coming from Derrick Johnson. With a thirteen point lead it looked as there was no stopping the Emmets. Inside the next 10 minutes Stabannon came roaring back with 1-4 without reply, the goal coming from Colm Giggins had the Emmets under pressure but two points from Grufferty (free) and Butler settled Glen Emmets again. Colm Giggins pointed again for Stabannon but this was quickly cancelled out with further points for Glen Emmets from Ian Cusck and Damien Grimes. Stabannon just didn’t give up and scored 1-2 in the closing minutes to close it to four. Only for some wayward kicking from Stabannon they could have being closer.
Glen Emmets Manager Kevin Barry will be happy with an opening round win and go into next weeks game against Cuchulainn Gaels in confident mood.
