Louth Division 3 Football League
Thursday night May 24th
St Brigids Park
Dowdallshill 3-6 Lannleire 2-15
What had threatened to become a runaway win for Dunleer in the early stages, turned into a very competitive affair, after Dowdallshill posed some serious questions before eventually succumbing to their mid-Louth opponents in the second half.
The visitors, who were looking to keep up the pressure towards the top of the table, raced into a 2-3 to no-score lead, and within 10 minutes of the start, it was looking fairly ominous for the hosts.
But the tide soon turned, and boosted by goals from veteran duo Noel Finnegan and Gerry Mc Shane, and a piledriver from Johnny Burke, the ‘Hill were quickly back in the game, and by half time, had drawn level at 3-3 to 2-6…
On the re-start, it was Lannleire who found the scores easier to come by though, and as the game became increasingly tetchy, John O’Connor’s side won the second half 9-3, sufficient to wrap-up a 6 point victory.
In spite of the defeat, some grounds for encouragement from the ‘Hill, who buckled-down and got themselves back into the game, when all looked lost in those early minutes.
