NATIONAL HURLING LEAGUE DIV 3A
For the second week running the Louth hurlers will have home advantage at the Darver Centre of Excellence when they host table toppers Monaghan in round 3 of Div 3A of the National Hurling League on Sunday afternoon.
Two successive defeats have left Louth in a battle to avoid relegation with the latest defeat inflicted on them being by Tyrone who netted on five occasions in Darver last Sunday afternoon. Joint managers Philip O Brien and Ken McKenna will be looking for a big improvement from their team in most sectors of the field particularly in defence and attack if they are to avoid another similar defeat against a team who are sitting proudly at the top of the table.
Neighbours Monaghan who are managed by Louth native Trevor Hilliard have impressed in the two opening round matches to date, firstly against Tyrone who they beat by 3-15 to 1-11 and they followed that up with the narrowest of victory over Donegal by 1-21 to 3-14 last weekend.
Castleblaney was the venue when the two counties last met in this division of the NHL in 2016 with the home side recording a 2-19 to 1-12 victory and they will be favourites to make it three wins in a row in this campaign on Sunday.
Throw in at Darver is at 2pm.
