Division 2 League

O’Connells 1-10, Glyde Rangers 0-7

O’Connells picked up their first points of the division 2 campaign when they defeated Glyde Rangers in a hard fought game at a very windy Grove on Sunday afternoon. Dean Stanfield got the scoring underway for the home side from a free and Emmet Byrne doubled the lead with a point after seven minutes. A brace of frees from Robert Quigley had it 0-4 to 0-0 for the Bellingham team after 15 minutes and things got even better for the home side after a long run by Jackie Agnew and his pass found Sean Cairns who shot to the net. Trevor O’Brien got the visitors first point of the game and the same player got his second and his team’s second not long after. The Tallanstown men could have had a goal when Niall Sharkey was in the clear only to see his shot brilliantly saved by Bellingham keeper Stuart Reynolds. Paul McKeever got the last point of the half to leave the score at the break 1-5 to 0-2 in O’Connells favour. Glyde were out of the blocks quicker at the start of the second half and got two points within a minute, the first a free from O’Brien and the other from Dion Conlon. The visitors continued to press and points from Niall Sharkey and Ciaran Sheridan reduced the margin to two between the teams 1-5 to 0-6. O’Connells increased their lead with points from Byrne and McKeever and further points from Quigley and Conor Kiernan looked to have sealed their victory going into the last ten minutes. There was a lot of scrappy football from both teams which was not helped by the wind. Sharkey got his team’s last point of the game and Conor McGill got the home side’s last point to ensure the Bellingham team collected the two league points for their first win in the division two league.

Division 3 League

Sean Mc Dermotts 1-12 Dowdallshill 1-6

The home side came from 2 points down at half-time to record this 6 point victory...
Aided by a strong first half breeze, Dowdallshill went in ahead at the break 1-3 to 0-4, the goal coming from substitute Damien Fanning.
However it was Mc Dermotts who dominated the third quarter, and when Cormac Walsh got on the end of a high ball to find the back of the ‘Hill net, it gave them a lead they were never to relinquish.
Dowdallshill has their best period of the 2nd half when Noel Finnegan landed a brace of frees, followed by a fine effort from distance from Jack Mc Gailey. But in truth, they were chasing the game by that stage, and Mc Dermotts were able to comfortably keep them at arms length.

Dowdallshill team and scorers:
John Kerr, Dylan Mc Donnell, Eamon Duffy, Sean Duffy, Jack Mc Gailey (0-1), Paul Flynn, Martin Og O’Brien (Damien Fanning 1-0), Justin Halley (0-1), Ciaran Thornton, Peter Hughes, Noel Finnegan (0-2), Luke O’Brien, Anthony Quinn, Chris Mc Mahon (0-1) and Dermot Smith (0-1).

Sean Mc Dermotts scorers:
Tony Kelly 0-5, Cormac Walsh 1-0, Martin Duffy 0-3, Patrick Osborne 0-2, Lorcan Ludden 0-1 and Ian Corbally 0-1.
