Sean O’Mahonys Club Notes
Our Seniors got their league season off to a great start with a 2 point win away to Naomh Mairtin on a heavy pitch in Monasterboice on sunday afternoon. The decisive score of this game came half way through the first half, when with the scores tied at 3 points each, and Stephen Fisher won a turnover in midfield, and some good play from Conor Martin and Sean Matthews found Fisher on the 45 haring up the centre towards the Martin’s goal before he unleashed a rocket into the top left corner of the net. It had been his second time to race through on goal, the first shot had been deflected over the bar by the home keeper, for Fisher’s first point of his 1-3 total on the day. Sean Matthews also looked lively in the first half, kicking two good scores from play, one with either foot. The lads from the Quay led by 4 points at half time, 1-7 to 6 points.
Martin’s got the lead down to 2 points early in the second half before O’Mahony’s reeled of 4 scores in a row, including 2 more from Stephen Kilcoyne, to lead by 6 points. That’s when Martin’s kicked 4 in a row of their own, 3 from placed balls, but it wasn’t enough with the away team 2 points to the good at the end, 1-12 to 0-13.
