Sean O’Mahony’s Club Notes
The Sean O’Mahony’s held the launch of this year’s Golf Classic, now in it’s 21st year, tonight on the Point Road. Don’t forget to book your tee off time with Martin O’Brien on 0861554118 for Friday the 20th July, to be held as usual in Greenore Golf Club. The proceeds from this year’s Golf Classic will help to fund both facilities and running costs for all our football teams. We currently have over 300 players and as this number is ever increasing, your support is both required and appreciated. The entry fee per team is €160, which includes green fees, refreshments, and the opportunity to win some excellent prizes. If you are not in a position to enter a team you, your business or your employer, may wish to sponsor a tee or green at a cost of €100 each.
The Sean O’Mahony’s senior team lost out to a persistant Brides team, in their last home league of the season, by 2 points in the end. The visitors were sharper in front of goal in the first half, taking 2 of their 3 serious goal chances, Kevin Brennan pulled off a great point blank save with his legs midway through the half, which helped the Knockbridge side to a 2-4 to 4 points half time lead. The home side gradually ate into that lead, with Barry Mackin adding 2 points to the 2 from the first half, Stephen Kilcoyne raised his 3rd white flag and the evergreen David Dowling drilled the ball over the bar when goal was on his mind. The Brides were restricted to a single second half point at this stage and were well hemmed in, when shortly after kicking a fine point, Ben McLoughlin drilled a Conor Crawley layoff, low into the bottom left hand corner to leave the lads from Quay with a single point lead with 3 minutes to go. The lead was short lived however, and the Brides now awoken from their slumber, kicked the last 3 points of the match to take the points and leave it a final score of SOM 1-9 Brides 2-8.

The Sean O’Mahony’s/ Na Piarsaigh/Dowdallshill U 14’s went down to a very strong Cooley/Cul Gaels team on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-4 in their League final in Darver on Monday evening. The Dundalk lads were only 2 points down at half time, but try as the might in the second half, they couldn’t get past the peninsula’s side’s keeper, who denied our lads 3 times. Well done to all involved on making the final and doing themselves plus their families proud.
