O’Connells 2-12, St. Fechins 4-11
St. Fechins qualified for the Sheelan Shield final when they had five points to spare over the O’Connells at the Grove on Friday evening. Jackie Agnew got the first point of the game for the home team but the visitors responded with a goal from Fergal McNally. Robert Quigley got the Bellingham team’s second point of the game but two points from Niall Devlin and an excellent 45 from keeper Niall McDonnell kept the margin at three. The sides shared the next four points before the O’Connells got level with a goal from Quigley after 20 minutes. Jamie King put the Fechins ahead with a point and a couple of minutes later he had the ball in the net after good work from Devlin. Evan Kelly put the men from Termonfeckin five in front and Conor McGill got the last point of the half to leave the score at the break 1-5 to 2-6 for the visitors. O’Connells made a few changes at the break but it was the visitors that started the second half better with the first four points from Kelly, McNally and a brace from Harry Haughney. Things got even better for the Beaulieu side when Haughney got their third goal of the game after a pass from Devlin to leave the score 1-5 to 3-10. The Bellingham team hit a purple patch and started the reduced the deficit with a Salem Rifaie point that was quickly followed by a goal from Dean Stanfield and further points from McGill and two points each from Quigley and Stuart Osborne made it a two point game 2-11 to 3-10 with just four minutes to go. A free from Haughney steadied the ship for the Fechins and a minute or two later Niall McDonnell stole the ball from a Bellingham defender and passed to Devlin and with only the keeper to beat he made no mistake firing to the net for their fourth goal of the game. Quigley got the last point of the game for the O’Connells but it’s the Feckins who go on to the final for a meeting with Naomh Mairtin.
