Ref: James Carroll
St. Fechins advanced to the semi final of the Junior 2A Championship after overcoming St. Brides on Tuesday night in Pairc an Chuinnigh
However for most of the game it looked as if st. Brides would advance as they dominated proceedings for much of the match.
The hosts dictated matters early on and were well in control and led by four points at the interval. 1-04 to 0-03. The highlight been a goal from full forward Mark Devin.
After the restart the Knockbridge men moved up a gear and extended their lead with goals from Richard Halpenny and substitute Aaron Matthews
Things got worse for St. Fechins as they had a man dismissed for dissent.
The Reds could have been out sight at this stage but thanks to some fine saves from their goalkeeper the 'Fechins' kept in touch.
Against all odds the Termonfeckin men crept back into it and took the lead for the first time late on.
However, with the end of normal time fast approaching Cathal Mc Kenna slotted over a last gasp free kick and forced the game into extra time with the scoreboard reading 3-07 to 1-13.
In extra time St. Brides went ahead but this was short lived. St. Fechins took control of matters and and ran out eventual winners by five points.
St. Fechins now play Mattock Rangers in the semi final.
