The Hollywood Developments Adult Football Leagues have made their long-awaited return, with a full bill of action starting last weekend.

The shock of the weekend came in Division 1, as last year’s beaten Senior Championship Finalists St Mochtas coughed up a substantial eight point lead to the Sean O’Mahonys, who prevailed to take the priceless two points home to the quay on a scoreline of 1-14 – 2-10.

Elsewhere in the top tier, the Geraldines had three points to spare away to Cooley Kickhams, 1-9 – 0-9; a clinical Newtown Blues overcame Declan McCoy’s young St Brides 0-10 – 0-7; St Fechins had too much for the defending league champions Ardee St Marys 0-11 – 0-8; and Mattock Rangers secured the most substantial victory of the opening weekend, seeing off St Patrick’s on a 4-7 – 0-8 scoreline. On Sunday afternoon, the Dreadnots produced an eye-catching result, with an injury time Craig Shevlin free securing the two points for the Clougherhead outfit at the home of the Senior Champions, Naomh Mairtin.

In Division 2, Roche Emmets had a 2-16 – 3-7 victory over Naomh Fionnbarra, the O’Raghallaighs and Dundalk Young Irelands played out a draw at the Gaelic Grounds, 2-11 a piece, Clan na nGael picked up their first win of the campaign with a 2-13 – 1-12 win over the Oliver Plunketts and the Dundalk Gaels had too much for St Kevin’s at the Ramparts – racking up a 2-12 – 1-6 victory. Hunterstown Rovers got the better of Des Lennon’s Kilkerley Emmets on their travels, on a scoreline of 1-12 – 0-13 at Pairc Cill Choirle while St Josephs beat the O’Connells in the local derby on Sunday evening, running out 3-14 – 1-10 winners.

In Division 3A, Glyde Rangers saw off Naomh Malachi on a scoreline of 1-12 – 1-4 under Friday night lights. Na Piarsaigh had too much for the Westerns in Reaghstown, running out comprehensive 5-13 – 1-4 winners on Saturday evening, and last year’s Junior Championship conquerors Glen Emmets scored an impressive twelve point win over Lann Leire, 5-10 – 1-10.

In Division 3B, there were wins for St. Nicholas over Annaghminnion Rovers, 4-5 – 2-7, the Wolfe Tones over Sean McDermotts, 3-9 – 1-11, and the John Mitchels who themselves secured an impressive 1-13 – 0-11 win away to Stabannon Parnells.
