A Look Ahead to Cavan in Round 5

Louth v Cavan – Preview
Louth travel to Kingspan Breffni this Saturday evening (28th Feb) to face Cavan in Round 5 of the Allianz National Football League Division 2. Throw-in is at 5:15pm.
Both sides come into the game on the back of important wins last weekend. Louth saw off Tyrone at DEFY Páirc Mhuire on a 1-15 to 0-13 scoreline, while Cavan secured two valuable points on the road with a 0-16 to 0-13 victory over Kildare. Those results leave Louth sitting fourth in the table, with Cavan in seventh heading into Saturday’s clash.
Gavin Devlin was boosted by the return of Tommy Durnin against Tyrone, with the Westerns man making a welcome second-half appearance after a lengthy calf injury sustained in pre-season. Leonard Gray was also back in the matchday squad, giving the management further experience and options.
Liam Jackson, Anthony Williams and Ciaran Byrne continue their recovery from injury, while centre-half Peter Lynch will unfortunately miss the remainder of the season, as confirmed last weekend, though he remains an important presence within the group.
The younger members of the panel continue to impress. Tadhg McDonnell and Padraic Tinnelly, both Leinster U20 champions in 25′, have shown great maturity at this level, with Tinnelly still eligible for the grade again in 2026. Conor Grimes marked his 100th senior appearance for Louth in style last Sunday with a superb man-of-the-match performance and will look to carry that form into the weekend.
As always, the support makes a real difference. The backing in Ardee last Sunday was fantastic, and we’d love to see a strong travelling support in Breffni again on Saturday evening to get behind the lads.
