Venue: Cluskey Park, Dromiskin

Sean McDermotts marched into the knockout stages of the Louth Junior Football Championship with a resounding 17-point victory over Dowdallshill in Dromiskin. The Mountrush men were in irresistible form, with Daniel Commins producing a stunning personal tally of 1-14, including three two-pointers, to underline their dominance.
Dowdallshill’s fast start
The Hill made the brighter start, silencing the Seans support with a cleverly worked goal from Davy Campion in the opening minutes. Paul Flynn quickly followed up with a neat point, and with the breeze at their backs, Dowdallshill looked sharp and eager.
But once the Seans found their rhythm, they seized control. Kevin McMahon got them off the mark before Commins announced himself with a superb two-point free against the wind. From there, the Mountrush side began to click, with Emmet Duffy, Matthew Little, and David O’Neill all chipping in to help build momentum.
By half-time, Sean McDermotts had struck 13 unanswered points to lead 0-13 to 1-3, transforming a shaky start into a commanding seven-point advantage.
Seans step it up
Dowdallshill briefly threatened a revival at the start of the second half. Stephen Murray, their standout performer, hit 1-1 in quick succession, momentarily narrowing the gap.
However, any hopes of a comeback were swiftly quashed by Commins. The Seans forward, already tormenting the Hill defence, added two more two-pointers and a series of clinical frees and scores from play. His ability to shoot from all angles and distances left Dowdallshill with no answer.
The Mountrush men showcased their team play too, with slick movement setting up well-taken goals for Commins and David O’Neill, both of which killed off the contest as the lead ballooned.
Dowdallshill battle but outclassed.
To their credit, Dowdallshill kept fighting and grabbed a late consolation goal through substitute #23 (name unavailable). But by then, the Seans were long out of sight.
Points from Cormac Walsh, Kevin McMahon, Peter Tuite, and O’Neill added further gloss to the scoreboard, while the bench made strong contributions as the Seans eased to the finish line.
Man of the Match – Daniel Commins (Sean McDermotts)
Commins was untouchable in Dromiskin. His return of 1-14, including three two-pointers, was extraordinary, but equally impressive was the variety in his scoring — booming efforts into the breeze, accurate frees, and clever finishing inside. His leadership and work-rate set the tone, and his second-half goal was the exclamation mark on a near-perfect performance.
“Calm under pressure, ruthless in attack — Commins was the heartbeat of McDermotts’ win.”
