AIB Leinster Intermediate Football Club Championship Round 1

From Stabannon

Hunterstown Rovers 4-17
Hollywood (Wicklow) 2-7

Louth Intermediate champions Hunterstown Rovers advanced to the Quarter Final of the AIB Leinster Intermediate Club Championship after a resounding 16 point win over Wicklow champions Hollywood on Saturday evening.

Sean Barry and Sean Kelly clearly managed the last two weeks in expert fashion after their side came firing out of the blocks. First half goals from Ryan Ward, Cillian Taaffe and Daithi Carroll as-well as two Ryan Burns 2-pointers left them in a comfortable lead at the break. Half Time – Hunterstown Rovers 3-13 Hollywood 1-1.

The Wicklow champions offered more by way of an attacking threat in the second half but, the know-how of an experienced Rovers side was always evident. Playing against a strong wind, they controlled large spells of the second period with Burns and Reid particularly prominent. A late Ryan Ward goal sealed the deal as the full forward finished with a tally of 2-4. Full Time – Hunterstown Rovers 4-17 Hollywood 2-7.

Hunterstown Rovers Team:
Donovan Sheridan; Adam O’Reilly, Euan Woodlock, James Russell; Daithi Carroll (1-1), Micheal Reid (0-1), Patrick Taaffe; Marc Ward, David Finn; Cillian Taaffe (1-0), Ryan Burns (0-8 -6f), Shane Halpenny; Ciaran Russell (0-2), Ryan Ward (2-4), Glen Matthews.
Subs: Tony McKenna for Marc Ward (41 Mins), James Rogers (0-1) for Glen Matthews (50 Mins), Aaron Levins for David Finn (50 Mins), Jamie O’Callaghan for Ciaran Russell (53 Mins).
