All Eyes on Dowdallshill as Louth Senior Hurling Championship Gets Underway

Louth Senior Hurling Championship Preview
The wait is almost over as the Louth Senior Hurling Championship gets underway next Thursday evening with a mouth-watering opening clash.
Defending champions Naomh Moninne begin their title defence against Knockbridge HC in St. Brigid’s Park, Dowdallshill, with throw-in at 7.30pm.
The men from Toberona will start the contest as favourites following an impressive campaign in 2025. They have further strengthened their squad with the addition of former Laois star and current Louth senior hurler Ciarán McKelvey. McKelvey showcased his quality throughout this year’s League and Championship with Louth, bringing leadership, skill and experience.
As always, ace forward Darren Geoghegan is likely to be the focal point of the Naomh Moninne attack. One of the most prolific scorers in Louth hurling, his accuracy and scoring ability have been instrumental for both club and county over recent seasons. Alongside him, Louth county players Fionn Cumiskey, James Murphy, Seán Magill, Kyle Rafferty, Mark Gahan and Aaron McGuinness provide further quality and experience throughout the team, while Cork native Micheál O’Shea adds even more strength to an already impressive panel.
Naomh Moninne have also introduced exciting young talent into the squad this year, with Finn Carter emerging as one of the brightest prospects to watch during the championship.
However, Naomh Moninne will know they cannot afford to underestimate Knockbridge. They possess a seasoned squad with several players who have represented Louth with distinction over many years.
Tipperary native Seán Flynn has enjoyed an outstanding 2026 season in the red jersey and brings invaluable experience and leadership. He is joined by fellow county players James Costello, Stephen Kettle, Adam Plunkett and Jake McNamara, while the experienced Ronan Byrne adds further leadership and composure.
With a blend of experience and talent throughout the team, Knockbridge will be determined to push the defending champions all the way.
With championship hurling returning, supporters can expect a fiercely contested encounter as Naomh Moninne begin their quest for back-to-back titles, while Knockbridge aim to produce an opening-round upset.
