CTI Business Solutions Intermediate Football Championship Group 2 Round 1

At Integral GAA Grounds, Drogheda

Wolfe Tones 2-13 Oliver Plunketts 0-16

Championship drama reached fever pitch in Drogheda as Wolfe Tones took down their town counterparts on Sunday afternoon at Integral GAA Grounds.
In a fiercely contested championship encounter, the match was played at a frantic pace, with both sides trading blows, though, it was the Wolfe Tones that landed the important majors through Sean McQuail and Chris Cudden.
There were two pivotal moments in the opening half with McQuail and Cudden holding their composure to slot beyond Dara Moore who was between the stick for Oliver Plunketts in the absence of Luke Haggans. Sean McQuail netted early to give the Platin Road side an early foothold in a crucial game for both sides. Cudden’s goal came right before the interval after he had already landed four points for the Tones.
Half Time – Wolfe Tones 2-8 Oliver Plunketts 0-7
Trailing by seven at the break, the 2025 Junior Champions produced an honest fightback as Kristian Nolan and Adam Lambe came to the fore. However, disciplined free-taking from the opposition’s talismanic Chris Cudden kept them tantalizingly ahead as the game entered the dying minutes.
As desperation set in late on, the Mell side had opportunities to level the game but failed in their attempts to snatch a draw.
