Durnin Leads Westerns to JFC Knockout Stages

Tommy Durnin was in heroic form as he played a starring role as Westerns advanced from Group 2 of the DKIT Sport Junior Football Championship following a 2-11 to 0-10 victory over St Nicholas at The Grove.

St Nicholas led 0-3 to 0-2 after 15 minutes, but Westerns turned the game around before half-time, with Oisín Drumgoole finding the net to give them a 1-4 to 0-4 interval lead.
Jack Martin struck Westerns’ second goal after the restart before substitute Tom Maguire, last year’s Louth Minor star, added an excellent two-pointer.
Westerns maintained control throughout the closing stages to secure a deserved victory and progress in the competition.
St Nicholas now face a crunch game with Glyde Rangers with a spot in the Quarter Finals up for grabs.
