“Louth Power Past Offaly with Strong Second-Half Display”

Allianz Football League Division 2 Round 1
Louth 1-23 Offaly 0-18
Glenisk O’Connor Park, Tullamore
Louth made a strong start to their Allianz Football League Division 2 campaign with a deserved five-point victory over Offaly in Tullamore on Sunday afternoon, following a powerful second-half performance aided by the wind.
In an open and entertaining contest, Louth’s pace and attacking efficiency after the break proved decisive, as they outscored the hosts by 1-10 to 0-05 in the second period to turn a half-time deficit into a comfortable win.
First Half
Offaly started brightly and made good use of the conditions, building an early lead through a series of well-taken two-point scores. Dan Molloy, Aaron Leavy, Keith O’Neill and Ciarán Murphy all found the range from outside the arc as the Faithful looked to capitalise with the wind at their backs.
Louth, however, stayed in touch throughout the opening half. Craig Lennon led the charge, notching three excellent points, as the Wee County consistently opened up the Offaly defence and worked the ball into scoring positions close to goal.
The sides were level at 0-08 apiece after 20 minutes and again at 0-11 each after 29 minutes, but Offaly finished the half strongly. Late scores from Keith O’Neill (free), Jordan Hayes and Eoin Sawyer gave the home side a three-point cushion at the interval.
Half-time: Offaly 0-14 Louth 0-11.
Second Half
Offaly stretched their advantage early in the second period when Keith O’Neill converted a 38th-minute free to make it a four-point game. However, that proved to be their final moment of control as Louth found another gear.
After missing a number of two-point attempts, Louth struck twice in quick succession through Conor Early and Craig Lennon, swinging the momentum and edging ahead by the 43rd minute.
Cormac Egan briefly restored parity for Offaly, but the decisive moment arrived in the 46th minute when Louth struck for 1-01 in a matter of seconds, with Sam Mulroy powering home a superb goal to open up a four-point lead.
Offaly battled hard and reduced the gap to three with twelve minutes remaining, but their attacking threat faded as the half wore on. Louth, by contrast, managed the game impressively, picking off scores and closing out the contest with three of the final four points.
