An Garda Siochana- Traffic Management Plan

 

Laois Hire O’Moore Park GAA Stadium Portlaoise

 

Fixture: All Ireland Senior Football Championship Louth V Kerry

Laois Hire O’Moore Park Portlaoise is a central GAA Stadium with a crowd capacity of 27,000.It has hosted major GAA fixtures including provincial championship games and all-Ireland qualifiers in both hurling and football.

An Garda Siochana have met with officials of Leinster Council and Laois County

Board to discuss and agree protocols and procedures for all fixtures in Laois Hire O’Moore Park.

The traffic management plan and safety management plan has been agreed. An Garda Siochana will activate a traffic management plan to control and regulate the movement and parking of vehicular traffic attending the event. Gardaí will be deployed at critical areas and junctions to prevent obstruction and promote the easy access and movement of traffic and pedestrians through the town and outside the Stadium.

Traffic will arrive in Portlaoise via the following routes:

  • M7 South Dublin- Portlaoise
  • N77 Dublin-Portlaoise
  • N77 Abbeyleix-Portlaoise
  • N80 Mountmellick-Portlaoise
  • N80 Stradbally-Portlaoise
  • M7/M8 North Limerick-Portlaoise
  • R445 Mountrath-Portlaoise

All patrons travelling to Laois Hire O Moore Park on the M7 are advised to use Junction 18 to access the stadium. VMS signs will be placed at intervals on the motorway directing people towards the ground via Junction 18. Parking is still available via Junction 17 at the Midway services and the Portlaoise Plaza. Access to Laois Hire O Moore Park by Road is restricted at Junction 17 because of Road works.

Patrons are advised to arrive at least one hour before throw-in to allow for parking

and adequate time to walk to the stadium.

Parking within the immediate area of Laois Hire O Moore Park is limited in public places (Wheelchair access with wheelchair permit only)

Weather permitting parking will be available on Pitch 3 at Laois Hire O Moore Park Centre of Excellence with access from Father Brown Road (entrance to Laois Hire O Moore Park at An Post SDS Portlaoise) exit will be onto the Abbeyleix Road from the centre of Excellence only.

Father Brown Road Closed to all Traffic between Abbeyleix Roundabout and An Post SDS, for the purpose of patron safety.

Patrons are advised that parking is available at;

  • Laois Hire O Moore Park
  • Parkside Shopping Centre
  • Midway Hotel M7 Roundabout
  • The Kyle Shopping Centre
  • Lyster Square Shopping Mall
  • Midlands Park Hotel Multi-Storey
  • Dunne’s Stores Mountmellick Road
  • Lismard Business Park
  • Clonminam Business Park
  • Kea-Lew Business Park
  • Portlaoise Retail Park
  • Laois shopping centre

Traffic restrictions

The Abbeyleix Road in Portlaoise, the N77, is closed for roadworks and there is no access inbound for Traffic coming into Portlaoise from the Meelick road. Outbound Traffic will not be restricted. Access to the Midway car park and the Portlaoise Plaza is still possible in and outbound from junction 17. (Kileen Construction Martin Maher 0862756995)

A traffic restricted cordon zone will be reserved and identified with Garda parking cones and any such areas will be tow-away areas. Offenders are liable to a tow away fee of €130.

Special needs parking will be reserved at Laois Hire O Moore Park and those wishing to avail of the facility should plan to be parked one hour before throw-in. (Wheelchair permit ONLY)

An Garda Siochana will endeavour to clear traffic within a reasonable timeframe post match, but motorists must be patient and appreciate the difficulties associated with mobilising large traffic volumes.

Motorists are advised to co-operate with Gardaí and stewards on match days. Patrons are advised to park in a designated safe area and ensure that all valuables are placed in the boot to reduce the risk of property theft and criminal damage.

Motorists are advised to take personal responsibility for their actions and not to compromise the safety of other road users while travelling to and from the game.

The following are arrival times for Trains into Portlaoise from Dublin Heuston Train station-

  • 1-25pm 2-15pm
  • 3-25pm 4-15pm

The following identifies times of departures from Portlaoise train station;

Normal Services –

  • 5-40pm
  • 7-40pm
  • 8-14pm
  • 9-10pm

The following are arrival times for Trains into Portlaoise from Limerick/Cork Train stations-
